Botox®
Repetitive muscle movements, like raising your eyebrows, frowning, and smiling lead to creases and folds in the skin. Over time, these creases become deeper lines and wrinkles. Onabotulinum toxin A or Botox® Cosmetic works by temporarily decreasing muscle movement to these areas, lessening the appearance of expression lines.
Your provider will discuss an appropriate treatment plan based on your desired goals. The injection process is short, usually 10 – 20 minutes. Normal activities (with the exception of lying face down or strenuous physical exertion) can be resumed immediately and the muscles need to be used actively in the first few hours to maximize the effect. Temporary bruising, redness or swelling may occur at the injection site. For safety and the most natural results, Botox® should be injected at a physician’s office by a certified provider who is a medical expert in facial anatomy.
Botox® can take up to 2 weeks for full results to be realized, although you may start to see changes within a couple of days. Botox® can last up to 4 months and fades gradually. Follow-up treatments are recommended 2 to 3 times per year. Clinical studies have shown longer lasting benefits of Botox® after receiving multiple treatments over time.
