Halloween might not be for another 364 days, but the aftermath of this year’s late-night parties, questionable cosmetics, and sugary treats can leave your skin looking a little scary.

If your skin is crying out for help, help it bounce back with a few expert tips from the skincare experts at Advance Skin Therapeutics.

Step 1: Start With Double Cleansing

If you wake up with face paint and glitter caked on your pillowcase, your skin desperately needs a thorough double cleansing.

Begin with a gentle cleanser, , such as a cream-based cleanser to breakdown makeup, all while keeping your natural moisture barrier intact. We’re fans of Revision Skincare® Gentle Foaming Cleanser and Nu-Derm® Gentle Cleanser. to melt away the tough-to-remove makeup and excess sebum without stripping away any extra hydration. Massage into your dry skin long enough to let it break down all the product, then rinse.

Follow up with an ultrarich face cleanser, like Revision Skincare Brightening Facial Wash with Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acids plus brightening botanicals to remove lingering impurities and dead surface cells. It will leave your skin clean, hydrated and smooth. Post-Halloween skin can be a little more sensitive than usual, so you may want to take things slow with a mild chemical exfoliation featuring fruit enzymes, AHAs, BHAs, or glycolic acid like Revision Skincare® Papaya Enzyme Cleanser or NeoStrata Exfoliating Wash with 8% PHA’s Gluconolactone and Lactobionic Acid which helps to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, discoloration, enlarged pores and roughness through gentle exfoliation, that also attracts moisture for added hydration and comfort.

Balance the skin with a hydrating toner such as NuCelle® Mandelic Toner with 2% mandelic acid or MEG-21 Moisturizing Toner to treat your skin with an immediate moisture quench.

Step 2: Gently Exfoliate to Remove Dead Skin

Now that your skin is freshly cleansed, it’s time to banish pore-clogging dead skin cells as we continue the exfoliating process.

NuCelle Mandelic Serum 10% Step 3 gently rids the skin of built-up, dead, dry skin cells, while cleaning out the pores and improving skin texture which leads to uniformity of skin coloration and helps combat the signs of aging. It balances the skin at a pH of 3.5. Advanced Skin Therapeutics Enriched 15% Glycolic Pads delivers vitamins A, C, E, green tea and CoQ10 to nourish and calm the skin as the 15% glycolic acid gently exfoliates, removes excess oil, stimulates collagen and balances the skin with a 4.0 pH.

These actives will dissolve the dirt and debris lingering in your pores without the harsh scrubbing of physical exfoliants.

Step 3: Rebalance Your Moisture Levels

Alcohol, heavy makeup, late-night festivities, and brisk autumn air are recipes for dry, irritated skin. So, you’ll next need moisture replenishment

Treat your complexion with a hyaluronic acid serum. Its ability to hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water draws atmospheric moisture out of the air and directly into your skin, helping to plump it back up while reducing post-party dullness.

We recommend Hyaluronic Acid Intensifier Multi-Glycan from SkinCeuticals® for an instant plumping effect, plus long-term support for your skin’s overall elasticity and firmness.

Alternatively, Revision Skincare® Hydrating Serum features two forms of HA plus natural fruit extract antioxidants and peptides. It reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, keeps skin uniformly hydrated, alleviates tightness and moisturizes without leaving skin feeling sticky.

Of course, you follow up with a moisturizer. If your skin feels extra parched, a thicker cream treatment like Meg 21 Face Treatment or Neostrata® Ultra Moisturizing Face Cream PHA 10 will work wonders. Otherwise, you can stick with your daily hydrator and have your dewy glow back in no time.

Step 4: Address Dark Circles and Puffiness

Staying up into the witching hour might be a Halloween tradition, but it also means waking up looking positively ghoulish, thanks to undereye bags.

Target the problem head-on with an eye cream, like Revision C+ Brightening Eye Cream, Neostrata® Intensive Eye Therapy, Neostrata® Brightening Eye Cream, Revision Skincare C+ Brightening Eye Complex or Revision Skincare® D·E·J Eye Cream.

Each contains ingredients that stimulate circulation in the delicate undereye area, helping to perk up the area and draw out fluid. Once the blood starts flowing, any puffiness should vanish quickly.

Bonus points if you pop it in the freezer for a few minutes before applying it. The chill will help speed up the de-puffing, so you’ll look refreshed, regardless of how few hours of sleep you’re running on.

Step 5: Don’t Forget Your Lips

Bold lip colors and drying matte formulas can leave your pout looking worse for wear, so we’ll show you an easy two-step treatment to get it back in tip-top shape.

First, gently exfoliate using a DIY honey-sugar scrub. The sugar sloughs away dead skin, while the honey is an anti-inflammatory and humectant. For particularly dry, chapped lips, add a couple of drops of olive oil to help the homemade hydrator glide across the delicate skin without further irritation.

Once you’ve rinsed away any lingering scrub, apply EltaMD® UV Lip Balm Broad-Spectrum SPF 36. It contains 5% Hydromanil™ for immediate and long-term moisturization and olive oil to infuse your lips with additional moisture and protect them from the harsh effects of cold weather while they heal or jane iredale LipDrink Balm SPF 15 formulated with a variety of waxes and oils to provide an antioxidant-rich protective shield. It’s available in sheer and three tints.

Step 6: Sunscreen (Even If You’re Planning on Staying Indoors)

Just because you’re planning on being a post-Halloween homebody doesn’t mean that you can leave your skin vulnerable to UV radiation.

Apply at least an SPF 30 because those harsh rays can still penetrate windows and contribute to premature aging. Advanced Skin Therapeutics has many different sunscreen options available from your favorite brands, including:

Bonus Tip: Hydrate From the Inside Out

No matter how well you treat your skin, you can’t neglect your body’s needs. After a night of partying— especially if there was alcohol involved— you’re likely dehydrated, so be sure to drink plenty of water and eat water-rich foods throughout the day.
