Just as the undereye area needs targeted care, vulvar skin requires products formulated with its unique structure in mind. Most body lotions aren’t designed for this delicate tissue. Fragranced formulas can easily exacerbate irritation, and while hormone-based treatments exist, they aren’t always the right or necessary option.
Revision Skincare’s V+ Comfort Moisturizer™ is a non-hormonal, fragrance-free formula created specifically for external vulvar skin. It delivers deep hydration and reinforces the skin barrier without disrupting the area’s natural microbiome.
Vulvar Skin Needs Special Care
The skin around the vulva has a different structure from the skin on your face or body. It’s thinner to begin with, which makes it more vulnerable to transepidermal moisture loss (TEML). It also has fewer sebaceous glands, meaning it doesn’t produce the natural oils that help lock in hydration elsewhere on the body. Without that protective layer, even minor irritants, such as tight clothing or mildly harsh soaps, can lead to dryness, redness, or stinging.
Hormonal changes can make that sensitivity more pronounced. During perimenopause, menopause, postpartum recovery, or while taking certain medications, estrogen levels drop. When that happens, the skin loses even more of its ability to retain moisture and maintain elasticity, so the skin barrier weakens over time, making it harder to recover when irritation does happen.
However, many moisturizers and body care products contain ingredients such as fragrances and occlusives that can interfere with the balance of vulvar flora and increase sensitivity.
V+ Comfort Moisturizer™ for Soothing Relief
Most creams and lotions have a water-based formula with oil dispersed throughout. V+ Comfort Moisturizer™ uses a reverse emulsion delivery system, meaning oil forms the base of the formula, with water droplets suspended within. Because it’s more lipophilic (oil-loving), this structure blends easily with the skin’s natural oils, allowing hydration to stay where it’s needed most. It also helps reduce moisture loss without occluding the skin, creating a soft, breathable barrier that’s exceptionally well-suited for fragile, easily irritated vulvar tissue.
- Hyaluronic acid attracts water from the environment to deliver a quench of moisture without stickiness or heaviness.
- Shea butter and jojoba esters mimic the skin’s natural lipids, sealing in that moisture with a flexible barrier.
- Dipalmitoyl hydroxyproline, a plant-derived amino acid, reinforces collagen production and improves skin firmness without relying on hormone-based actives.
- Bio-saccharide gum-1 replaces traditional essential oils, acids, and other common irritants. Instead, this carbohydrate complex soothes redness, stinging, or tightness caused by friction or cleansing.
- Prebiotic blend of lactitol and xylitol helps maintain a healthy balance of bacteria in the vulvar area, supporting the microbiome that protects against irritation, pH disruption, and dryness.
Support Your Long-Term Vulvar Skin Health
Along with using Revision Skincare’s V+ Comfort Moisturizer™, you should also take a few precautionary steps to help protect the skin in this sensitive area.
Go Fragrance-Free
Fragranced soaps, bubble baths, and intimate wipes are common culprits for disrupting the skin’s pH and microbiome. Stick with mild, fragrance-free cleansers or warm water alone, and avoid using anything that leaves the skin feeling tight or overly “fresh.”
Skip the Scrubs and Exfoliants
Even gentle exfoliation can be too much for vulvar skin. If you’re dealing with flaking or rough texture, prioritize barrier repair over exfoliation. Physical scrubs and glycolic acids can do more harm than good.
Be Mindful of Fabrics
Tight-fitting underwear, synthetic fibers, and non-breathable leggings can trap heat and moisture, which may aggravate already sensitive skin. Cotton fabrics and looser fits can help prevent friction and allow the skin to breathe.
Avoid Over-Washing
Some of our patients worry that their irritation is due to not being “clean enough,” but cleansing too often can actually strip away excessive amounts of moisture. Once a day with warm water (and no harsh soaps) is plenty for most people.
At Advanced Dermatology & Cosmetic Institute, we frequently see patients who are dealing with vulvar dryness or sensitivity, and many of them have tried at least one product that either made things worse or had no effect.
That’s why we partner with Revision Skincare to offer clinically tested products, including V+ Comfort Moisturizer™, at Advanced Skin Therapeutic. We’ve found that it meets the needs of vulvar skin, providing hydration and skin barrier support in a formula that’s gentle enough for everyday use.
If you’re experiencing persistent irritation or have questions about vulvar dryness, we encourage you to contact us to schedule an appointment. Dr. Elizabeth Briden would be happy to discuss your concerns and offer skin-safe solutions that provide soothing relief.
